Apprentices optimise business performance

The web answers our queries and questions providing an endless choice of what we buy and from where, so web-based companies must source the best in website design and optimisation to be successful.  Unitel Direct is one of the fastest growing UK online marketing and communications companies where staff optimisation is crucial for continuing success.

Recruiting talented young apprentices to their Middlesbrough customer and technical service teams helps generate a real buzz of energy and creativity   Junior members of the technical services team Jessica Mawby (20) Paul Newman (17) and Laura Hodgson (19), each actively contribute to projects for a diverse range of clients, whilst developing their skills and provide exactly the evidence needed for their IT User Level 2 Apprenticeships delivered by ITEC North East Ltd.,

Jess and Laura originally secured places at university and college to study ICT and Interactive Media respectively but realised gaining vocational qualifications with an employer would give a real boost to their career aspirations.  Jess is developing her skills to ensure sites get top rankings through search engine optimisation and loves the challenge of learning how to get the best results for her clients.  Working on website design is proving to be a surprising alternative route to meet Laura’s desire to work in media and advertising as she grasps the styles and techniques best suited to represent a real mix and size of clients.

Paul left school last year at 16 and applied to ITEC for an Administration Apprenticeship to improve his chances of employment, however when he was interviewed at Unitel he was given the chance to join the technical services team and although he had no previous creative experience he says he can, “let my mind go wild” contributing some of his ideas and now he’s hoping to move into web design.

Kelly Laybourne in Technical Support works with all of ITEC’s apprentices and confirms she’s been really impressed with their enthusiasm, understanding of the business and ability to adapt to a busy and demanding working environment.
“Our Apprentices work in teams with colleagues of varying ages and levels of experience gaining qualifications relevant to their choice of career.  Although they are paid a decent wage during training we appreciate their circumstances and help with travelling costs.  I would say completing an Apprenticeship before continuing onto further education would be more beneficial than traditional education routes.”
